The True Cause of Low Back Pain

Low back pain is a condition that affects some 80% of people at some point in their lifetime. It accounts for more sick leave and disability than any other medical condition.

There are many, many reasons for low back pain. Pretty much all of them stem from too much strain being placed on your lower back in some way. This usually happens because of either your spine getting twisted out of shape or your pelvis .

Strangely enough, a lot of the time this happens when you get too much curve in your back. Imagine arching your lower back. This is what can happen to some degree when your spine is pushed out of place.

Your body does this to adapt to an injury or weakness in another part of the body. It's trying to take the strain off that other area. But what happens is that your lower back ends up taking too much weight in a bad position.

The problem is, you probably won't even notice it for quite a long period of time. The first time it occurs you'll feel some pain, maybe an ache or strain. But after a day or two it goes away and then you feel fine.

However, the problem hasn't disappeared - it's simply out of sight. The muscles are getting tighter and tighter to adapt to the strained condition. They're doing this to try to handle it. But eventually the strain will catch up with them.

That's when the pain kicks in.

By that point though, your condition is probably pretty bad. You've had it for quite a long time, and there's no quick solution. Doctors will probably tell you there's little that can be done aside from an operation to fuse your vertebrae together, or painkillers.

But what about a natural approach? An approach that will actually heal the condition, rather than just letting it carry on beneath the surface.

Well, as a first step there are exercises that one can do by oneself to help the body's natural healing cycle, and relieve the symptoms of pain and discomfort.

Here is one for you to try yourself:

Lying on your back, curl your knees onto your chest, clasp your knees with your hands, pull your knees further onto your chest, count to 5, then relax.

Try doing this ten times, once or twice per day.

Naturally though, the best solution would be to see a Chiropractor, who can assist the spine to return to its natural alignment, and give you some real relief.

A chiropractor will help to move the bones back into their proper positions, thereby relieving the strain on the muscles around them. However, this is not a quick-fix solution!

You have to realise that not just your lower back is out of its correct position. Just like anything really worth doing, put some time and effort into truly healing your spine, so it stays healed!
