Stomach and Back Pain Together

Back pain is quite a common problem today, thanks to the stressful modern-day lifestyle. On the other hand, stomach pain is also one of the most common condition experienced by human beings in more than one instances in their life. Individually, there can be myriad potential causes of back pain and stomach pain. However, if these two symptoms are experienced together, there can only be a few prominent causes for the same.

This condition can be caused due to a variety of reasons from diet and food habits to smoking, alcoholism, etc. Abdominal pain, nausea, loss of appetite, headache, etc., are the symptoms of acid reflux disease.

Appendicitis
The appendix is an organ located in the lower right side of the abdomen. Inflammation of this organ results in a condition known as appendicitis. The exact cause of this condition is not known. Pain in the lower right side of the abdomen, lower back pain, nausea, etc. are the typical symptoms of appendicitis. This condition is commonly found in younger adults.

Gallstones
Gallstones are the bodies or stones formed when the concentration of bile in the body increases. Gallstones can be of different types like pigment stones, cholesterol stones, etc. These are formed when bile stays for a long time in the body. On the other hand, gallstones can also be formed if there is excess bilirubin and cholesterol in the body, and not enough bile salts. Sudden and severe pain in the abdomen and the back, high fever with chills, yellowing of the skin, etc. are the symptoms of gallstones.

Kidney Stone
Kidney stone is one of the most painful conditions experienced by human beings. When the level of calcium and uric acid in the body rises, it does not get washed out from the body. Rather, it gets stored in the kidneys in the form of stones. These are known as kidney stones. Not drinking sufficient amounts of water, having calcium supplements, improper diet, etc., are the causes of kidney stones. Severe pain in the stomach and the back, difficulty in urination, etc., are the symptoms of kidney stone.

Pregnancy
Back pain is commonly observed during pregnancy, due to the pressure exerted by the increased body weight on the back. However, if the woman suffers from stomach and back pain together, then it should be bought to the doctor's notice immediately. The causes range from constipation, stomach disorders, to ectopic pregnancy.

Treatment

As mentioned above, you should identify the type and nature of pain, and describe it to the doctor aptly. Acid reflux can be treated with the help of prescription, as well over-the-counter medications like antacids, proton pump inhibitors, etc. However, one should remember that these medications give only temporary relief. It is essential to identify the underlying cause and make changes in one's lifestyle to get rid of acid reflux disease quickly. Appendicitis is also treated with the help of surgery.

The treatment of kidney stone depends on the size of the stone. Smaller ones can be removed with the help of medications, whereas you may require a surgery to get rid of large kidney stones. Treatment of gallstones involves use of medications or surgery. However, surgery is considered as the safest and most effective way to get rid of the gallstones quickly. Surgery also helps in preventing the frequent occurrence of gallstones. On the other hand, the use of medications may take a longer time. But, it is preferred by people who cannot undergo surgery.
